About Jaguar
Summary
Jaguar, a brand owned by Jaguar Land Rover, hails from the royal land of United Kingdom that is known for its impeccable flair for luxury and comfort. The company is currently owned by the Indian auto legend -Tata Motors. And its headquarters are located in the heart of British Kingdom - Whitley, Coventry, England.
The foundations for this phenomenal brand were laid down in 1922 as Swallow Sidecar Company which was initially indulged in production of motorcycle sidecars. It was after the Second World War when its name was changed to Jaguar.
Today, Jaguar cars are developed and designed by Jaguar Land Rover’s engineering teams that are active at the Whitley plant of Coventry along with the Gaydon site located in Warwickshire. Its vehicles are produced at company’s Castle Bromwich assembly unit situated in Solihull and Birmingham plants.
Jaguar Motors was acquired in 2008 when Tata Motors took over its reign from Ford. It was in the same year when company rolled out its first vehicle - the XF in Indian automotive market. Post this, the vehicle turned out to be one of the best selling Jaguar cars. This paved way for several other models that were then introduced one after the other in Indian market.
Executive Management
It was year 2010 when Tata Motors signed up Dr. Ralf Speth as the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Jaguar Land Rover. In India, all JLR operations and activities are taken care by Tata Motors. On behalf of home grown car maker, it is Mr. Rohit Suri who looks into all affairs as President of company.
Indian Operations
Jaguar is yet to start with local production of its cars in India. Almost all Jaguar cars in India are imported as Completely Built Units (CBU). Considering the growing demand for its luxury vehicles, the British car maker has decided for local assembling of its upcoming models in India. The forthcoming Jaguar XE saloon is expected to be locally assembled in India.
Products & Services
The British car maker owns its sales office in our country that is responsible for looking after all its sales related affairs across all states of the country. Jaguar also has state of the art dealerships that are spread across all important cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Jaipur. The automaker plans to improvise its dealership network by focusing more on customer satisfaction rather than raw sales. JLR is currently offering a 24x7 on-road assistance to buyers of its cars.
Environmental Initiatives
Jaguar hasn’t introduced any of its hybrid or electric cars in our market till date. In 2010, at the Paris Motor Show, the car maker proudly displayed the Jaguar C-X75 a hybrid-electric, two-passenger concept car. The concept model claimed to crank out power worth 778hp via its four electric motors. In year 2011, the British car manufacturer further announced its intentions to produce the C-X75 are limited edition; somehow the plan didn't work out so well. The car maker is currently working on some alternative fuel technologies that are likely to propel its future Jaguar car models.
Founder & First car
In year 1922, the Swallow Sidecar Company’s foundations were laid by two motorbike enthusiasts, William Walmsley and William Lyons. Later, the company forayed into car productions and the name was changed to SS Motor Co. It was in year 1935; for the first time the SS Jaguar titles appeared on a sedan powered by a 2.5-litre engine, and two sports models - SS 100 and SS 90. The company wished to avoid any kind of reference to Nazi with its SS connotations post Second World War, so it changed its name to ‘Jaguar’. In 1966, the luxury car maker merged with the British Motor Corporation, and the company received a new title called British Motor Holdings. In year 1968, BMH entered into a venture with Leyland Motor Corporation and it turned into British Leyland. Jaguar earned popularity with release of a lieu of magnificent sports cars like the Jaguar XK120 (1948-54), XK140 (1954-57), XK150 (1957-61) and the E-Type (1961-75).
USP
Jaguar cars in India are most reckoned for their latest mechanisms and supreme performances. All cars produced under the banner of Jaguar Motors come with a perfect blend of comfort, power and luxury. To pacify the constantly growing demand for Jaguar car models in India, the company has set up a number of dealerships across different cities of India. The latest fleet of mileage leading Jaguar cars is admired for its above par power, performance, fuel efficiency, and luxury by all its admirers.
Resale Value
The resale value of Jaguar cars in India is pretty decent. The brand hasn’t started with local assembling of its products, as a result of which they are quite expensive compared to all their contemporaries. Consequently, resale values of other luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi cars are way better as compared to Jaguars'.
Competition
Jaguar Motors in India takes a strong stand against the German luxury trio - Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Moreover, it is also receiving a challenging rivalry from the Swedish luxury carmaker- Volvo Cars.
