Automobili Lamborghini S.P.A. is the world renowned ultra luxury sports car manufacturer that hails from Italy. It is completely owned by the famous Volkswagen Group indirectly through its subsidiary brand segment Audi. Lamborghini’s headquarters and manufacturing facility are located in a place called Sant'Agata Bolognese in Italy.

The company was initially founded by Italy’s legendary manufacturer, Ferruccio Lamborghini, as an ultra luxury sports car company and was named as Automobile Ferruccio Lamborghini S.P.A in 1963. The basic idea behind it was create a brand that could take other established marques such as Ferrari hands on. In year 1966, the firm was highly praised for its Miura Sports Coupe that carried rear mid-engine along with rear wheel drive which was a standard high performance feature in that era. Due to global financial meltdown and the historic oil crisis, in year 1973, the sales of Lamborghini sports car dropped by a huge difference. The firm was overtaken by three different brands after that. The first one was American Chrysler which acquired the Italian brand in year 1987. Post that again in 1994, it was bought by a Malaysian investment group called Mycom Setdco and an Indonesian group called V'Power Corporation. In year 1998, finally, it was purchased by the Volkswagen Group who bought 100 per cent stake in it and then placed it under its luxury brand Audi. The Italian automaker is known for manufacturing sports cars and V12 engines for offshore powerboat racing. The recent Lamborghini car models are V12-powered Aventador and the V10-powered Huracan.

Executive Management

The super-luxurious brand Lamborghini happens to be a hundred per cent owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. The German car maker has placed it under its other luxury brand Audi. At present, Stephan Winkelmann holds the position of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In India, its key responsibilities and activities are controlled by Mr.Pavan Shetty, Head of Operations (India) at Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.

Indian Operations

Like all other ultra-luxurious vehicles, Lamborghini cars in India are brought-in as Completely Built Unit aka CBU. Each and every Lamborghini car model is imported straight away from its manufacturing facility located at Sant' Agata Bolognese in Italy.

Products & Services

Lamborghini cars in India can be bought via contacting company’s official dealerships in India. At present company has three outlets in India: New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The company also plans to expand its touch points and get a better access to other parts of market in coming years.

Founder & First Car

Legendary manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini laid down the foundation of Lamborghini S.P.A in year 1963. The whole idea behind this project was to bring forth grand touring cars that rivalled against the previously established car brands such as Ferrari. The first Lamborghini car model was launched in the mid-1960s and it claimed supreme applauses for its refinement, comfort and power. The maker, however, received amazing response for its Miura sports coupe, 1966. It had mid-engine at rear end along with a rear-wheel drive layout.

Environmental Initiatives

Launch of any hybrid or electric car from Lamborghini in India is still awaited. Not only in India, an eco-friendly Lamborghini is awaited across the globe. The reports are out that the Italian car maker is developing a plug-in hybrid supercar. Lamborghini revealed the Asterion LPI 910-4 plug-in hybrid supercar at the Paris Motor Show last year. The model propels on a 5.2-litre V10 power mill that cranks out 610bhp power figure in association with a 300bhp electric motor. Together the two mills give combined output of 910bhp. The power mill melds with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission gearbox.

USP

Lamborghini, the world known Italian luxury sportscar manufacturer is best reckoned for building some of the most luxurious and powerful sportscars. Apart from unmatched power and performance, these supercars are also admired for their aggressive styling.

Resale Value

Lamborghini car models are counted among some of the costliest car models in India. The reason being, all its cars are imported in India straight away from its manufacturing unit in Italy. Anybody aspiring to own a Lamborghini needs to shell out a minimum amount of Rs.4 crores.
