Tata Tiago NRG [2018-2020]

Summary

The Tiago NRG, an entry-level cross-hatch from Tata Motors and a direct rival to the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X is now available with an optional AMT in petrol guise. The Tiago NRG is available in petrol and diesel variant with three colour options.

Exterior

The NRG stands for ‘energy’. Appearance wise, there are added body cladding on the subtle looking Tiago. There are faux skid plates both fore and aft along with roof rails which lends a rugged appearance to Tata’s baby hatch. The headlights get a smoked effect while at the back, there is a large black insert on the tailgate which houses the NRG moniker. The 14-inch alloy is new and the NRG is raised 15mm by tuning the suspension and the NRG is available in three body colour options – Malabar Silver, Canyon Orange and Fuji White. Dimension wise, the Tiago NRG is slightly taller, longer and wider due to increased ground clearance and added body cladding. The NRG’s length is increased to 3793mm, the width is 1665mm and the overall height is 1587mm over 3746mmx1647mmx1535mm of the standard car.

Interior

On the inside, the blacked out cabin gets an orange treatment around the AC vents, centre console, gearbox housing and on seats via patterned stitching. The 12.5-cm touchscreen music system makes its first appearance in the Tiago range with the NRG. It is the same unit as the one seen in the Tigor and offers the same levels of connectivity. Also making a debut in this range are rear parking sensors, follow-me-home headlamps, and driver seat belt reminder.

Engine & Transmission

Mechanically, the Tata Tiago NRG carries forward the mechanicals without any performance upgrades. So there are options of both petrol and diesel engines as in the standard car. The petrol engine is the 1.2-litre Revotron with 84bhp and 114Nm. The diesel is the 1.0-litre Revotorq putting out 69bhp and 140Nm. A five-speed manual transmission comes as standard, while AMT is optional on the petrol variant.
